The Golden Orb spider gets her name from the beautiful golden, orb-shaped web that she makes. This web is the largest and strongest in the world. She is big enough to frighten people, remains in her web day and night and gains some protection from bird attack by the presence of a ‘barrier network’ of threads on one or both sides of the orb web. The strong web can trap large prey, sometimes even small birds. The males are really tiny and live on the edge of her web feeding on small insects.
